ACT Desi is produced and hosted by Vikas Sharma aka Desi RJ Vikas. He is a seasoned marketing and communications professional with over two decades of experience in creating and managing integrated communications campaigns for diverse industry clients. Passion for media, entertainment and to create something meaningful led Vikas to create ACT Desi, a differentiated media platform for the diverse Indian and international community in not just Australia but across the world. About the show

ACT Desi is a multilingual media experience, presented in Hindi, Urdu, and English. The show caters to Indian and other South Asian communities, covering relevant issues, showcasing empowering stories, and sharing news and topics on daily life in Canberra. The show began its journey in July 2019, when it was aired for the first time on 12th July at 8.30 pm on 2XXFM - Oldest community radio in Canberra. Desi literarily means 'countryman', usually a word spoken in South Asian countries. It reflects a deep feeling or sense of connection / belonging to one's motherland while respecting and adapting to new culture and values.

Some ideas or concepts hosted on the show:

  • ACT Desi Live - a concept started through the facebook page of ACT Desi to conduct interviews.
  • Bringing special guests and initiating discussion on topics concerning mental health, climate change and travel ban.
  • Binding the community around events and showcasing diverse cultures, traditions and music through talking to the community leaders and experts.
  • Running the episode showcasing the musical connection between India and Australia
  • Regularly running research-based shows.
